The Sterile Esmarch bandage is a wide natural rubber (latex) strip used to control bleeding in orthopaedic surgery.
 
An esmarch bandage or esmarch tourniquet is traditionally a soft, rubber bandage that can be used in emergencies to expel excess blood from a limb that has had its blood supply cut off through the use of a tourniquet. Usually, it’s wrapped around the limb from distal to proximal, offers maximum consistent pressure for exsanguination before starting a surgical procedure, this prevents flow of blood during surgeries. Esmarch bandage is ideal for orthopaedic blood-less surgery.
