Description

For Rigid Foot Plates & Arch Supports

TFC (Thermo Formable Composite) is an advanced carbon composite sheet engineered for orthotic and prosthetic applications. It offers the high localised strength of carbon fibre with the modelling flexibility of thermoplastics, making it ideal for creating rigid foot plates, arch supports, and custom braces.

Product Overview

TFC is a thermoformable carbon composite available in unidirectional and bidirectional fibre orientations. The carbon fibres are interwoven with a revolutionary thermoplastic fibre, allowing the material to be heated and moulded at lower temperatures. This unique hybrid structure provides exceptional strength, flexibility, and ease of fabrication.

Key Features

  • High strength-to-weight ratio: Carbon composite reinforcement delivers rigidity and performance.
  • Thermoformable at low temperatures: Easily shaped using a heat gun or oven for precise customisation.
  • Fully remouldable: Can be reheated and adjusted for patient refitting or design changes.
  • Versatile structure options: Available in unidirectional and bidirectional fibre orientations for tailored rigidity and flexibility.
  • Simple to cut and finish: Can be trimmed using standard workshop scissors or cutting tools.
  • Compatible with reinforcement materials: Additional layers can be heated and bonded for extra support where required.

Applications

  • Rigid foot plates and arch supports
  • Custom orthotic and prosthetic fabrication
  • Braces requiring localised rigidity with flexible control
  • Performance and rehabilitation devices

Forming & Processing

TFC can be easily formed to your mould using a heat gun or by placing the sheet in an oven. For full consolidation:

  • Place your custom lay-up in an oven under vacuum
  • Maximum temperature: 430 °F (≈221 °C)
  • Time: 30–45 minutes
  • Result: A single consolidated orthotic or prosthetic structure with high durability and strength

Specifications

Material TypeThermoformable carbon composite with thermoplastic matrix
Fibre OrientationUnidirectional or Bidirectional
Thickness1.5 mm
Sheet Size100 cm × 60 cm
Moulding TemperatureUp to 430 °F (≈221 °C)
RemouldableYes – fully heat remouldable
ApplicationsFoot plates, arch supports, orthotic braces, prosthetic components

Note: Additional equipment such as vacuum lines, chambers, and oven adaptors are available separately to support the forming process.

TFC Thermo Formable Composite provides the perfect balance of carbon fibre strength and thermoplastic flexibility, enabling clinicians and technicians to deliver durable, high-performance orthotic and prosthetic solutions.

Reviews (1)

  • It is a good product, I use it every time.

It is a good product, I use it every time. TFC is also fully heat remouldable, and allows adjustable fitting just like thermoplastics.
